I've long had a love of octopus. Their intelligence and way of life is so complex and differs from the human experience - in such extremes that they are alien to us. We can neither think like them or experience the world like them.

Rearing up off the sea floor to reach for the glowing sun that warms, and burns delicate tentacles. One strong push would be enough to gain the surface. And perhaps foods that aren't found here. Bright eyes pierce the gloom, and a decision is made. They float, reaching and stretching, trying to convince the resting parts of themselves to wake up.

There are universes in our oceans, they aren't ours to discover. They belong to the giant Pacific octopus and their kin.

All we get to do is watch and wonder.
