Glacier Cool

$432.00

The Icefields Parkway is a stretch of road that is in Alberta Canada, and I have had the privilege of travelling this route frequently since 1977.

When I first travelled here in '77 the glacier was beside the highway. Now you park at the highway, get on a big coach bus, drive way out to their transfer parking lot..

Then you get to go on a Snocoach. It's not like any other vehicle I know of. You go almost straight up and down and on the glacier itself is otherworldly. We filled our water bottles and drank from the cool runnels. Steam rose off the ice in the intense sunshine.

I was last on this glacier in 2014 and what I've shown in this painting is the small glacier to the south of Athabasca glacier when you're standing on the glacier. Every time a glacier loses an arm it's a new glacier they have to name. This one didn't have a name as it was new that year.

I attempted to go on the glacier again in 2016, it didn't work out sadly. I'm hopeful I will return to this route next summer.

This acrylic art piece is one square foot, 12x12 inches on a stretched canvas. I love the big gallery depth on this and it doesn't require framing. Hanging hardware is included.
