When it’s Time For a Reset

I love a fresh start. And I have a specific process for when it’s time to move on from painting one series to the next.

The first step is to close any reference photos I was using for the last series.

Next, I’ll empty my pallete and add all new colours.

Finally, I blast some dance music, and let myself fall into the groove.

Reset mode is always experimental, and I tend to focus on trying something I haven’t done before.

Think of it like a palate cleanser, cleaning the cobwebs out of the attic, doing a big clean of your house at the beginning of spring…

Whenever I’ve completed a series, season, or session of paintings, I always need a minute to catch my breath and remember who I am in all of this.

I can lose myself in reference photos.

My art is always my way and my style, but that doesn’t change that it still affects me.

It doesn’t remove the need for a fresh start.
