Resonance

I generate resonance. When I create, I’m thinking about the bell moment - when the clapper strikes the bellow and it echoes. It reverberates and you feel it deep down inside of you. That’s what I’m trying to catch through my artwork.

The thing that makes you go “hmm…” or “wow!”

The thing that makes your guts jump up and down.

The thing that makes your heart swell.

The thing that evokes a smile, a laugh, or maybe some tears.

The feeling you can’t name, but you know it’s there.

The visceral reaction.

The resonance.

I generate resonance with movement and music and colour. So, I play music that invokes a feeling inside of me that I want to capture for all of you in the composition that I’m doing. My hope is that it translates through the art to you.

Michael Daoust is an incredible writer of speculative and fantasy fiction. He wrote a blog post about resonance, particularly about how The Sandman impacted him. And the way he expresses the feeling of something reaching deep down inside of him is exactly what I hope to do with my art.
